ABOUT

The purpose of the program is to help redevelop abandoned, idle, or underutilized properties where expansion or redevelopment is hindered by actual or perceived environmental conditions. Examples include abandoned gas stations, industrial, and commercial properties. Grant funds can be used to pay for environmental assessments and cleanup planning to help move commercial properties towards redevelopment.

Vicksburg is a progressive city where you will discover a community committed to excellence. It is a unique blend of old and new in a city that offers plenty to see and do. Founded in 1811, Vicksburg has grown into a center for commerce and river traffic and is best known for the part she played in the Civil War.

With the help of the Vicksburg Brownfield Advisory Committee (VBAC), the Community Development Director identifies candidate properties for assessment and cleanup planning assistance.  Information is available for prospective purchasers.

The City of Vicksburg Community Development Division oversees the Brownfield Program. It is divided into five (5) departments, Building Code Department, Code Enforcement Department, Zoning & Business License Department, Housing Department and Planning Department.

While the Vicksburg Brownfield Program primarily focuses on assessment and cleanup planning, there are also federal, state, and local resources and incentives to assist developers and prospective purchasers in cleaning up sites for re-use.
